Marionette line fillers

Marionette lines (also called puppet lines or melomental folds) are lines that run from the corners of the mouth towards the chin line. These lines are formed as natural part of ageing. Dermal fillers can be used to help improve these lines to achieve a more refreshed and youthful look that still look natural. "Dermal Fillers" is used to describe a sterile gel that is injected under the skin to provide volume, lift and/or contouring. They help improve the appearance of wrinkles and help contour certain areas of your face.

WHAT ARE MARIONETTE LINE FILLERS?

Marionette line fillers are dermal fillers that are used to treat the lines that run from the corners of the mouth towards the chin . The term "Dermal Fillers" is used to describe a sterile gel that is injected under the skin to provide volume, lift and/or contouring. Dermal fillers are usually cross-linked to give a more structural effect. Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring sugar found in your own skin. This makes them safe to inject (as the body doesn't reject them) and reversible (with a product called hyaluronidase). A few contain calcium (HarmoniCaTM, RadiesseTM) or amino acids (JaluproTM) which work in a similar way to enhance collagen and elastin production.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?

When you arrive for your treatment at one our clinics in Redhill or Reigate, you will be checked in by one of our coordinators. You will be then be greeted by our friendly doctor and a complimentary consultation will be carried out to check the suitability of the dermal fillers after discussing your personal goals and medical history. If other treatments are more suitable our clinician will let you know about them. You will also have a chance to ask any questions you may have. Once the consent forms are signed we will proceed to take some photographs for your medical records. Numbing cream will be applied about 20 minutes prior to treatment. Your skin will be then cleaned using a cleansing solution. Your skin may be marked with a non-permanent skin pencil and the dermal filler injections will be given with a tiny needle.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?

You may notice a small amount of bleeding at the injection sites which tends to settle within 15 minutes. Bruising can also occur but it's not normally extensive and you should be able to cover this with make-up from the day after your treatment. You are encouraged to sit upright for the first hour after treatment. For 24 hours after the procedure, we recommend avoiding makeup, exercise, alcohol, hot drinks, and hot environments and to not touch the injection sites. You should also avoid anything that may displace the filler such as wearing glasses after nose filler. You will see an effect immediately, but it takes 2 weeks for the swelling to go down, the filler to stabilise and for the final result to be visible. Depending on the filler used, the effect normally lasts upto 6-12 months and other factors such as your metabolism.
