WHAT DOES HAVING ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS INVOLVE?

When you arrive for your treatment at one our clinics in Redhill or Reigate, you will be checked in by one of our coordinators. You will be then be greeted by our friendly doctor and a complimentary consultation will be carried out to check the suitability of the anti-wrinkle injections after discussing your personal goals and medical history. If other treatments are more suitable our clinician will let you know about them. For example, if you have deep lines dermal fillers maybe more appropriate. You will also have a chance to ask any questions you may have. Once the consent forms we will proceed to take some photographs for your medical records. Your skin will be cleaned using a cleansing solution. Please inform us if you have any allergies prior to this point. Your skin may be marked with a non-permanent skin pencil and the botox injections will be performed using a tiny needle. A little pain is not uncommon and depends on several factors including hormones, tiredness, stress, and distraction and vary from treatment to treatment and person to person. Numbing cream is not usually needed as only a fine needle is used, but if you would like to have some numbing cream please let us know at the start of the consultation. This can take about 20 minutes to work. Immediately after, there will be small marks / tiny bumps on the face where the product has been injected; they will go down after around 10-20 minutes. You should not apply any of your products (including makeup) over the area treated for at least 6 hours. Your aftercare advice will be given or sent to you electronically. Do not apply any makeup to the site for 6 hours, avoid exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. If this is your first time having treatment with us, you will be booked for a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks, where your treatment can be topped-up if required, or any adjustments can be made.

DO THESE INJECTIONS HURT?

The injections are given using a tiny fine needle and is very tolerable. It often feels like acupuncture than any pain. Numbing cream is usually not needed but if you are more sensitive and anxious please let us know at the start so numbing cream can be applied. This will take about 20 minutes to work.

03

IS IT SAFE?

This form of toxin is considered safe and has been used to treat tens of millions of patients worldwide over the past two decades. Because of this we have a good safety profile for toxin injections. This is an increasingly popular treatment due to its great results and around 900,000 treatments are carried out alone in the UK each year. NHS does also offer toxin injections to treat some muscle disorders in much higher doses than what we use cosmetically. Furthermore, your treatment will be done by a GMC registered doctor who is fully qualified and insured to do your treatments.

04

WHO CANNOT HAVE MUSCLE RELAXING INJECTIONS?

You cannot have muscle relaxing injections if: -you have an allergy to it -you are under 18 years of age -you are pregnant or breastfeeding -you are on certain medications (this will be discussed at the consultation) -you have certain neurological disorders -you have deep fixed lines that will not be treated with toxin

05

WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE?

You may notice small red lumps at the injection sites which tend to settle within an hour. Bruising is common but not normally extensive and you should be able to cover this with make-up from the day after your treatment. You are encouraged to sit upright for the first hour after treatment. For 24 hours after the procedure, we recommend exercising the affected muscles, avoiding makeup, exercise, alcohol, and hot environments, and not touching the injection sites. You will start to notice a difference after a few days but sometimes it can look irregular as the toxin begins to paralyse some muscles but not others. This should even out as the rest of the muscle relaxes and the final result will be visible at 2 weeks. The effect normally lasts for 3 months (up to 6 months for sweating).
